Every number, and where it came from
Two line items, always. What the infrastructure costs us, and what we add. This page is generated from the same rate card that charges your account, so it cannot quietly disagree with your bill.
One credit buys a block of time. How long that block is depends on the quality you picked, so changing quality changes your hours rather than your price per credit. Our fee is two cents an hour, the same on every rung — it is not a percentage of your bandwidth, it is what running the platform costs per viewer-hour, and that is the same whether you are on 1080p or audio.

Blocks are whole credits and their length is rounded down to the minute, so “you pay” sits a little above bandwidth plus fee — at 720p that is 3.53¢ against 3.35¢, about a fifth of a cent an hour in our favour. We would rather print that than round it away. Chat is free to read and to send.
There is no markup on a creator, on any path. Streaming is free outright; the optional things cost exactly what they cost us.

Your upload is remuxed, not re-encoded — the compressed video is never touched, only the container around it changes — which is why streaming costs a fifth of a cent an hour and why we can give it away. Recording is paid for at the moment it is written, so a recording can never be deleted because a balance ran out. You set your own membership price, minimum $2, and receive all of it; the member covers card processing as a separate line.

Extra qualities run on Livepeer at $0.30 a stream-hour. Above roughly 700 stream-hours a month across the platform, running our own transcode box costs about 14.5¢ an hourProjected — at that point we switch and the price drops accordingly. That figure is a projection from vendor specifications and has not been benchmarked on our own hardware, so we are labelling it rather than promising it.
Latency is 10–15 seconds today, which is standard HLS. Getting below that means holding a connection open per viewer at the edge, and we have not confirmed our CDN can do it. We will not publish a latency number until we have measured one.
Thresholds here are in stream-hours rather than creator counts because stream-hours are what the cost actually scales with.
Every price change, dated, with what caused it. This is a description of practice, not a promise about the future — but it is what makes “when our costs drop, yours drop” checkable after the fact instead of merely stated.
We do not publish a ceiling on the fee and we do not promise a notice period. Both were considered and dropped deliberately: this is a young company and it will need to change things, and a maximum it later has to walk back would make the walk-back the story. What we promise is the structure — both line items, always visible, every change logged with a date. Not a value, and not a timeline.
